A common issue with natural stone, the thin areas in front and back of the sink have rods embedded in the stone to help prevent cracking during transportation and installation. Unfortunately, over time, if the stone is not sealed regularly, it will take on moisture. As this moisture wicks into the stone, it causes the metal rod to rust. As the rod rust, it pulls the stone apart, creating the crack you see on the surface. This can be a frustrating and surprising occurrence.
You may think that replacing the countertop is the only option, but we can help with repairing the area to avoid a need for replacement. Through a process of bonding, color-blending and polishing, we can restore the area and give you many more years of life to your countertop.
While this type of repair will be structurally sound and will visually blend with the countertop, it will not be an invisible repair.
The farmhouse sink option is yet another solution to this issue, which will not only eliminate the cracked area, but will give you a new look to the kitchen.
